"Sketches around the world" in Australia

In Australia, Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies, Veolia Water, Veolia Environmental Services and Veolia Transport have jointly organised the children awareness campaign.

The Winning Message : Perth

Baldivis primary school - Perth

The "Baldivis children's forest" is a project that was initiated by the schoolchildren of Baldivis primary school and their teacher - Mrs. Judith Hill - in the year 2000 with the aim of protecting the Tuart forest, heavily maltreated by the growing urbanization of the town.

Some trees are fairly old...with a lot of leaves. In this forest, the children can caper about among the trees, explore the marshland...

We really love our forest. The motorway extension severely reduced the amount of greenery that surrounded us beforehand. The trees, the bushes, the plants have been cut down to leave way for housing. We are working hard to keep this little piece of parkland, to protect our forest, our marshland because we want the children to carry on enjoying this place for years to come.

We think that the children have a role to play in protecting the environment.

This is why we are so keen on bringing the most fragile parts of this area back to life: we take out the weeds and plant new plants, new trees.

Animals set up home in this environment. It is not rare to come across tortoises, reptiles... The best reward we can get! We love finding out about how they live.

So, we are doing all we can to encourage the animals to settle in our forest. We have noticed that the birds love to come and nest in the trees we have planted.

Our forest will not be destroyed to build houses. We will protect nature so that everyone remembers exactly how beautiful, how rich our environment is.

Participating schools

Grimma, Storkow, Köthen, Zeitz, Bitterfeld, Eisleben, Görlitz, Weißwasser, Gera et Braunschweig...

17 classes have confirmed their participation to the "Sketches around the World" program.

Our municipal customers have been extremely supportive of the operation and the opportunity to educate Australian children about the environment and the notion of progress and sustainable development.

Children from Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales are currently discussing these issues with their teachers and parents.

Program schedule

On 17 April, members of the Australian jury will meet to select one of the entries that will represent Australia in the "Sketches" international travelling exhibition.

2 children and 1 adult of the winning class will be invited by Veolia Environment for one week to take part in the international meeting of the representatives of winning classes, in Paris at UNESCO headquarters in early June.
