One of the biggest rivers in Europe, the Danube, is the main source of water in our region - this river is the biggest ground water reserve in Eastern Europe. Many bridges link the different parts of the town.
"Sketches Around the world" in Slovakia
Veolia Environnement is launching its third program to raise awareness among children aged between 9 and 11 years: "Sketches around the World".
The Winning Message: Bratislava
Schoolchildren from class III A in ZS M.C. Sklodowskej 1 school
Our progress already achieved
Petržalka is the most populated and most polluted district in Bratislava. Indeed, a refinery complex pollutes not only the air but also the ground water. A water processing plant was built in Petržalka to try and alleviate this problem.
Our idea for progress:
Many cars pass through the capital of Slovakia every day. In the past, people used horses and carts to move about, but today things have changed. People prefer to travel by car to their workplace - the car is a quick and comfortable mode of transport.
We understand that adults prefer to use their car. So in order to make this mode of transport more ecological, we would like to suggest a solar-energy driven car. This car would use a natural energy source with no chemical ingredients.
At the moment, this idea exists only on paper, but we are convinced that one day this idea will become a reality. How great it will be to breathe the air in our town!
More than 1300 elementary school children have confirmed their participation in this international event "Sketches around the world".
Participating cities
Children from Bratislava, Senec, Vráble, Poprad, Brezno and Kráľovský Chlmec have a two months' time ahead of them to discuss, make some inquiries and express themselves through drawings.
These drawings will become messengers of their ideals on how to preserve our planet for future generations.
