The Winning Message: Most

Schoolchildren from class V A in V. Talich de Most school

Most, our town has an interesting history. Here is our history:

Coalmines were discovered beneath houses and the church. When our parents were little, a large part of Most was demolished so that the coal could be mined. Historical buildings had to be demolished: theatre, town hall...

Unfortunately our town's history has disappeared, but a new town was born out of this demolition. Apartment blocks have been built, colorful containers for sorting waste are strewn about our narrow streets, we are lucky to have access to a swimming pool and a racecourse... and a transport network that favors the environment...

Our town has all the same held on to a little history: at the top of the town, the "Hnevin" fortified castle where Maître Kelley was imprisoned under the reign of Emperor Rodolphe is still there... This castle has been completely restored. From its balcony, the view is really fantastic!

The best thing to do is come and visit our town!

Our idea for progress

Our school places a lot of importance on protecting the environment. We decided to focus on collecting paper.

We decided to collect paper five years ago. To begin with, children brought in a few kilos, with or without help from their parents. Our approach attracted the attention of other classes. Now, there a many of us who continue to bring in paper. Last year, our school collected 23,504 kg - the contribution from our class was 4,769 kg! Each pupil in our school brings in an average of 150 kg of paper per year, which is most definitely not an insignificant amount!

We have noticed that people are reluctant to sort their waste. It comes as no surprise that most paper ends up in the garbage dumps where it takes many years to decompose... So why throw away paper that could be re-used? We, the children, are trying to convince those around us not to throw all types of waste into the same container! We are asking them to save the paper, because we know that in a few months it will be transformed into cardboard or newspapers.

Furthermore, maybe in a few years we will be able to read the news on paper we have already read!

Thanks to this effort made for the environment, a lot fewer forests will be destroyed.

Sorting waste does not make day-to-day life more complicated! It is simply a question of making a small effort for our planet! We want to help nature and the forests! We hope that our project will manage to convince other classes, other countries! Nature deserves it!
