Životné prostredie, to je príroda okolo mňa... a moje zdravie

Slovakia has chosen its winning flag

Six Slovak schools taking part in the competition handed in their flags on March 23, 2005.

They included two schools sponsored by UNESCO, the French school and three schools located in areas where Dalkia is established.

Miriam Ševčíkova, the representative of the Bratislava Academy of the Arts, had only a few days to shortlist a number of flags among a total of 150 entries. She chose 40 flags based on artistic merit and on the strength of the message they conveyed.

My streamer

Milena Ďurčoková (9 years old)

Tupolevova Primary school
Bratislava - Petržalka

"I love nature a lot and I drew a butterfly because it's my favourite animal. I drew some flowers too because they smell good, they are gentle and full of colours. When the air and the water are clean, the world around us is magnificent.

I coloured the background green because grass is green. All the colours on my flag are my favourite colours.

Butterflies love clean air, that's why we must not pollute our environment."

Selecting the winning flag

The members of the panel met in the gallery of the Institut Français in Bratislava on April 1st.

Given the quality of the drawings, it was difficult for the panel of 8 members to choose the winning entry. The panellists were:

  • Mr. Andrej Ďurkovský, the Mayor of Bratislava,
  • Mr. Jean-Pierre Meulenet, the head of the Institut français
  • Mrs. Anna Polievková, the representative of Unesco in Slovakia,
  • Mrs.Miriam Ševčíková, the representative of the Academy of the Arts,
  • Mrs.Janka Matejíčková, the editor of Fifík, a children's magazine
  • Mrs.Krenyitzká, the head of the advertising agency
  • Mr. Vincent Barbier, the head of Dalkia Slovakia
  • Mrs. Juliana Kostrabová, Communication Assistant at Dalkia

After an hour of deliberations, the panel chose the flag drawn by Milena Ďurčoková, a 9 year old pupil at the Tupolevova primary school in Bratislava - Petržalka.

All those who took part in the competition, as well as the officials, the sponsors, the parents and the press will be invited to the official prize-giving ceremony to be held on June 6th at Bratislava City Hall.
