Our streamer
School no. 24 (Class III - A)
Bucharest - Romania
We the pupils of the 3rd grade, present you with "the flag of happiness, the flag of health".
A little child who loves planet Earth takes care of nature; the sun thanks him and gently strokes him with its rays.
The child lives on a planet which is full of living beings.
The butterflies symbolise the refinement, the life that people love, the nature that people care for.
In return, the sun, the flowers and the butterflies care for the child. Their own vitality lends the child health and force.
The life of planet Earth is also our own; our life is the life force of planet Earth!

Veolia Environnement, APA NOVA and UNESCO launch the "Flags around the World" programme An international programme
The launch of the programme took place in Romania in 24 schools in Bucharest, i.e. 94 classes and 2104 pupils and in Ploiesti in 6 schools, i.e. 20 classes and 505 pupils.
"Streamers around the World" is a new international programme which aims to teach children more about the towns and cities in which they live so that they become more aware about how best to protect their living environment against the effects of pollution. Apart from historic and architectural information, the children are provided with information about the effects of daily activities on the environment. At the end of the programme, the children design a streamer featuring a symbolic drawing and a message about protecting the environment. The winning designs from all the countries taking part in the programme will be made into flags which will be exhibited in each of the countries in early June, as part of events organised for World Environment Day.
In Romania
In Romania, the programme involved the 3rd grade pupils of several schools drawn from various areas of the capital, Bucharest, as well as the town of Ploiesti. On 22 March, 2005, which happens to be World Water Day, the designs created by the pupils were exhibited to members of the public at the headquarters of UNESCO in Romania.
The winning classes took part in an awards ceremony which was held in early April. During this ceremony, the winning drawing was reproduced life size. The pupils of the classes which were awarded the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were rewarded with attractive gifts: an excursion, badminton rackets and backpacks.
A long-term campaign
The programme, which kicked off on 22 March, 2005, forms part of a long-term strategy on the part of the Veolia Group to increase awareness and educate public opinion about the importance of protecting water resources and the environment. The actions undertaken are aimed mostly at children, who are very receptive to this kind of information and capable of influencing the attitudes of their parents and teachers.
