Umwelt und Natur: meine Gesundheit

The programme in Germany

In Germany, Veolia Water participated in the new "Streamers around the world" competition organised by Veolia Environnement. Around 2,000 pupils took part in the competition, designing the streamers at school. Upon expiry of the deadline for handing in the entries, on 22 March, 2005, which happens to be World Water Day, a panel met to choose the winner among a multitude of colourful entries. This was no easy task, because the entries were all magnificent and highly original. We ended up selecting 3 streamers.

Our flag

  • We chose to draw a flag containing various colours and symbols whose meanings are as follows:
  • A bright sky forms an arch over a peaceful world (the dove symbolises peace).
  • The joyous colours of the rainbow shine out over a healthy environment.
  • Nature is surrounded by protective hands; the trees and the flowers can prosper in a healthy environment.
  • In this healthy environment, people feel really good.

Three classes on the podium

The first prize was awarded to the flag drawn by the 4th grade class of Hedersleben primary school in Saxe-Anhalt. The panel chose that streamer because it was the one which best conveyed the message of environmental protection and health. The second prize was awarded to the pupils of class 3II from Weißwasser primary school. The third prize was awarded to class 4a of Storkow primary school, which created a collage entitled "nature is my environment and therefore my health".

Forthcoming events

In April and early May, three events will be organised involving the three winning schools. The pupils of the classes involved will reproduce their drawings on a large flag. The events will be attended by the mayors of the towns, the parents of the pupils, their teachers, the local press as well as a number of Veolia Water employees. During the events, the pupils of the winning classes will each be awarded a magnificent blue sports bag in the colours of Veolia Water containing a beach towel, a snorkel, diving goggles, a water pistol, a water bottle as well as a number of other fun gifts. This way they will be encouraged to discover the aquatic environment as well as do some sport, which is very good for the health!
