The environment is my nature... and my health

Our streamer

Saint Simon The Apostle School - Fifth grade
Indianapolis - USA

Our class first brainstormed ideas about the environment and what each person is responsible for to keep the city of Indianapolis clean.
We brainstormed and we webbed a list of words such as recycling, pitch-in, do not liter, keep the canal and parks clean, plant flowers, do not cut down trees, stop pollution, conserve and not over use resources of our earth. Using the worksheets (making your streamer), helped us create symbols, use of colors, along with thoughts on how to care of our own city. What is important to keep Indianapolis looking nice and keeping the canal, canal walk clean.

Symbols used in our class design:

  • Squares for the buildings designed not to take so much space to build.
  • The checkered flag represents the famous Indy 500, displayed on top of the building instead of digging a hole in the ground.
  • The recycle symbol on the tree, park area, reminding people t recycle.
  • The billboard is a rectangle, Save the Earth, displayed high so we remind each other to protect our special place, earth.

Colors used in our class design:

  • Blue around the edge of the banner is the water in the canal, representing the canal walk downtown Indianapolis. Blue is the color of the Indianapolis Colts and Pacers, our class then talked about how we needed to represent blue as a main color, so the canal was our final idea to display it as the edge of the banner. Bleu water is appealing people.
  • Colors used for the theme display diversity.
  • Orange used for the recycling sign, do not liter are bright reminders.
  • Other colors represent daily life.
