The operation around the world
Primary schools children aged between 9 and 11 years old will design their "streamers", in other words a flag symbolising environmental protection, and will write a short text explaining the thinking behind it. Then the streamers from each winning class per country/region will be printed as real streamers on flag fabric. Fluttering in the breeze on 5 June, the date of World Environment Day, the streamers from participating regions/countries will bear messages from children all over the world.
With the support of the French National Commission for UNESCO
The French National Commission for UNESCO has given its support to this operation, which will involve classes in over 30 countries/regions.
The international campaign initiative, "Streamers around the world" is completely in line with the perspectives and priorities put forward in the "United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005-2014", which calls for everything to be done to remind each individual that the imperative of sustainable development applies to everyone.
It targets our lifestyles, our respect for the lives of others and our behaviour towards the world in which we live.
In certain parts of the world, representatives from the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network and Veolia Environnement associates will get together to encourage schools to take part in this awareness-raising campaign.
