The event
The ceremony was launched at 10:30 am on Friday, April 16th, in the presence of our Guest of Honour, Mr Zainudin Nordin, Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh , Vice Chairman of Central Singapore CDC, Mr Wang Nan Chee, Director-General for Public Health at the National Environmental Agency, Mr Philippe Boissy, First Counselor of the French Embassy in Singapore, and representatives of Veolia Environnement in Singapore.
To emphasize the international aspect of environmental issues and of the Scroll event, the 200 children from St Margaret's Primary School were dressed in their national costumes forthe ceremony.
More than 20 nationalities were represented.
They were congratulated by our guests and teams. Also all enjoyed the opportunity to look at the previous drawings from the children in China.
The children and teachers explained to the audience the concept of the drawing.
It is organized in four parts which introduce simple gestures for the environment at home, at school, in the community and in the countryside. Each individual piece of this jig-saw puzzle plays an equally important part of the overallpicture.
Likewise, the efforts from different sectors to improve the environment are equally important.
All the parties and students were enthusiastic about the event, and agreedthat progress in the quality of our environment strongly depends on enhancing environmental consciousness amongst youngsters.

Veolia Environnement activities in Singapore
- Dalkia, together with Singapore Power, is building and later operating a 150 MWr cooling plant. At full capacity (900 MWr), this district cooling system will become the world largest, providing chilled water for air-conditioning of all commercial buildings for the Singapore New Downtown Area.
- Water is a limited resource, particularly in Singapore. Veolia Water Systems is helping to supplement Singapore's water supply by designing and building two water reclamation plants. Used water purification and treatment increases supply for industrial use. This 'New Water' frees large amounts of potable water for other purposes.
- Onyx is involved in collection and treatment of Singapore's wastes with its two subsidiaries, Purechem-Onyx and FME-Onyx. Purechem-Onyx is a leader in hazardous waste treatment and recycling. FME-Onyx takes care of domestic, commercial and industrial wastes. Its 500 employees collect the wastes of the inhabitants of Tanglin/Bukit Merah sector and clean the streets in Central Singapore, serving 1.4 million people.
With Dalkia, Veolia Water, Purechem-Onyx and FME-Onyx, Veolia Environnement is strongly committed for a better environment in Singapore.
