The event

A pre-scroll event was held in Saint Denis, Réunion island on World Environment Day, June 5, 2004.

The actual scroll will come to the Réunion at the end of September

World Environment Day

The event took place at the Social Club for Reunionese of Chinese origin, a partner organization and a key participant in numerous other events taking place in connection with the Year of China in France.

Children from Saint Denis' various Chinese associations between 8 to 10 years old took part in a drawing competition held in advance illustrating the simple gestures that can help to protect the environment and enable people to live well in their city and on their island.

The artwork from all the children who entered the competition was put on show.
Then all children attended a Chinese and Creole-style party

The judges for the competition, comprising representatives from the Saint Denis municipal authorities, AROC, Onyx and Générale des Eaux selected the prize-winners, who will then reproduce their drawing on the scroll and will also receive an award from the Deputy Mayor, Réné-Paul Victoria.
