The event

An event held in the offices of the Hungarian Agency for the Protection of the Environment, Nature and Water Management

After leaving Bratislava, the scroll arrived in Budapest on May 18. The messages from the previous 15 cities had already been added to the scroll.

In Hungary, the children had already taken part in a competition. The schools were chosen based on their commitment to the environment and their active participation in a series of competitions.

Hungary was represented by a 4th year class from Homoktövis primary school in Budapest and by a 5th year class from József Eötvös primary school in Dorog.

The ceremony started with a speech by Dr György Kovács Zoltán, Principal Director of the Principal Department of Environmental Protection and Nature and Water Conservation.

Then, Elizabeth Robino, a commercial advisor, the representative from the French Embassy in Hungary and Pascal Le Mičre, head of business development at Veolia Environnement's international department, welcomed the guests.

Afterwards, the children played the leading role in the event.

While the message about environmental protection was drawn on the scroll by two pupils from Dorog and four from Budapest, their classmates made their own drawings which they gave to the Principal Department as a gift for holding the event at its offices.

While the artwork was being prepared, the children were given a tour by the department's staff of the bus that measures noise and assesses the state of the environment and is currently the most modern facility used in Hungary.

Messages added to the scroll in Hungary

Homoktövis primary school - 4th year pupils

Title:
Down with environmental pollution, and up with a beautiful and clean Budapest

Children's message:
We would like others to understand, too, that it is no fun living in a dirty environment and that we can influence people's behavior and thus help to protect nature and live in a more beautiful environment.

Dorog - József Eötvös primary school - 5th year pupils

Title:
Dorog of the future

Children's message:
We would like Dorog to be cleaner and more colorful, selective waste collection to be introduced and the city's inhabitants to make their environment more beautiful so that it is a happier place to live in.

Mr Le Mičre gave out awards and gifts to the children, then the scroll continued on its way to Bucharest.

Veolia Environnement's activities in Hungary

The environmental services businesses operated by Veolia Environnement moved into the Hungarian market over ten years ago, at the beginning of the 1990s.
The transportation division has an agency in Hungary. The other businesses are represented by their Hungarian subsidiaries, Veolia Water, Onyx and Prometheus (Dalkia group subsidiary). The total workforce is around 2500 people.

The four businesses are independent legal entities. However, in line with the group's international practice, they are keen to cooperate closely in the areas of sales and communication.
The comprehensive, tailored service offering developed by Veolia Environnement subsidiaries aims to provide customers, primarily municipalities but also industrial and tertiary operators, with reliable, optimised and cost-effective solutions along with technical development projects.
