The event
The contest organized by Veolia Water was won by a group of children from the Children's Club in Sector 3
The four winners drew Romania's message on the scroll at Veolia's stand at the Apa 2004 Expo.
Between April 21 and May 10, Veolia Water Environnement organized a competition to select the drawing that would represent Romania as part of the international A scroll around the world event.
The purpose of this educational initiative is to raise international public awareness about the importance of environmental protection and of the natural resources that are essential for life.
The event consisted drawing messages illustrating how to live well in our city on a large scroll that is visiting all the countries where the Veolia Environnement group has subsidiaries.
Teams of four pupils between eight and ten years old from children's clubs in Bucharest and Ploiesti, cities where Apa Nova subsidiaries of the Veolia group operate, took part in the contest held in Romania.
In their drawings, the competitors expressed their ideas about simple ways of living better in an environment safe from pollution.
After due consideration of the artistic qualities and the message contained in the drawings, the winning entry was chosen. It was the drawing submitted by a group from the Children's and Pupils' Club in Sector 3, coordinated by their teacher Gabriela Aanitei and comprising Maria Basea, Teodora Petcu, Cristina Micu and Ioana Teodora Mechea.
Everyone who entered was rewarded with pencil cases, and the children belonging to the winning team were given easels and other drawing equipment from Andreas Baude, Executive Vice President of Veolia Water Romania.
Romania's message was drawn on the scroll by the winning team in a ceremony that took place on Friday May 21 at Veolia Water's stand at the Palace of Parliament during the international Apa 2004 Expo event.
The event drew the attention of the Romanian and foreign visitors to the importance not only of children's education, but also of a healthier life in the city they live in while respecting and protecting their environment.
